August 2010 - Clearly influenced by California Nurses Association tactics the Minnesota Nurses Association is making changes. See the MNA Proposed Bylaws Amendments and Resolutions

February 2009
:
Stopunions.Com welcomes the nurses of Cypress Fairbanks Medical Center in Houston Texas and a huge welcome back and show of support to the staff of St Agnes Medical Center in Fresno California.
California Nurses Association Surrenders

California Nurses Association formally notifies Inland Valley Medical Center of their intent to walk away and give up as the union representing Inland Valley Nurses. Click above link to view faxed notification from the unions legal department to the NLRB.

NLRB Notice removing recognition of the California Nurses Association from Inland Valley Medical Center

Click the above link to view the National Labor Relation Board notification revoking the recognition of the California Nurses Association as the bargaining agent (union) for Inland Valley Medical Center Nurses.
Congratulations, all your hard work and tenacity paid off.

August 21st 2008 -  The California Nurses Association has withdrawn request for an election to be held next week (August 26 and 27th 2008) to allow the Nurses of Inland Valley Medical Center in Wildomar, California to vote on continuing to be represented by the union. The CNA went one step further and has withdrawn representation of the hospital. INLAND VALLEY is UNION FREE.
Grassroots pressure by a small but dedicated group of nurses forces the California Nurses Association hand. Congratulations!

St Agnes Medical Center registered nurses are voting now against representation by the California Nurses Association. NLRB supervised secret ballot voting is being held May 21st and 22nd.
The grassroots group of nursing professionals "ourvoice-ourchoice" has gone to great lengths to educate their coworkers why they should choose not to organize with the California Nurses Association. Our thoughts are with the entire St Agnes Medical Center organization.

SEIU Accuses California Nurses Association of UNION BUSTING!!!

This is not the first time the CNA and SEIU have exchanged a war of words, in 2003 when the SEIU obtained a Neutrality agreement with Tenet Health Corporation the CNA called the deal "illegal and that it woud not hold up in court".  The hypocrisy of the California Nurses Associations argument was that when the CNA quietly obtained their own "illegal deal" with Tenet Health CNA President Deborah Burger said, "This agreement is a monumental achievement for Tenet RNs".

January 29th 2008 -  Links Page updated and reorganized. California Nurses Association Financial Information/LM-2 listed. These documents are filed by the Labor Union every year as required by the National Labor Relations Board. The documents list all income and expenses reported by the labor union including payroll information and organizing expenses such as catering, airfare, hotels and political donations. We hope you will find this information useful. Find out how much the unions pay their organizers.

January 31st 2008 - Scripps Encinitas - The California Nurses Association in a last gasp effort filed multiple unfair labor practice charges with the NLRB against the hospital. The NLRB must investigate these charges and because the charges were filed so near the vote date, the vote must be delayed pending the outcome of the investigation. The California Nurses Association knows this and that is why they waited until now to file these charges.
Blatant harrassment of "disobedient " nurses, healthcare organizations, politicians and private citizens is a common practice of the CNA and other unions. Using funds from the collection of dues from its members the unions pay out huge sums to its legal staff and organizers to create these bogus charges and accusations.
Scripps nurses tell me that all the CNA has done is drive another nail in the coffin the union built for itself. One Scripps RN tells stopunions.com that its "GAME ON!!!" when asked if the current charges break the spirit of the decertification drive.

January 22nd 2008 - Scripps Encinitas Registered Nurses must vote "NO" on February 6th and 7th 2008 to decertify the California Nurses Association. Your freedom and right to remain union free is at stake. Nearly 90% of the nurses at Scripps Encinitas have chosen not to pay union dues under your current open shop contract. This choice, this right is at stake!
Your contract is up for renegotiation in March and you can be assured that the California Nurses Association will be after your paychecks, your money! Scripps Encinitas can and most likely will become a CLOSED SHOP in the next contract unless you actÊ NOW. Vote to remove theÊCalifornia Nurses AssociationÊand prevent a closed shop contract. Your vote will make a difference. If the CNA is not removed and a closed shop contract is approved by the small but vocal minority of nurses who choose CNA domination, that minority will cost you nearly $90 a month in FORCED dues payments. Non payment of dues WILL result in your forced termination.

December 27th 2007 - Scripps Memorial Hospital Encinitas Registered Nurses filed today to decertify the California Nurses Association. Support for the CNA has fallen off over the last couple of years when as predicted the CNA failed to follow through on all their "promises".
Scripps Encinitas nurses had been unionized under an "open shop" contract and when the union failed to prove their worth, membership plummeted to less than 15%.Ê Nurses at Scripps look forward to voting out the CNA soon.

November 2007 - Stopunions.Com and Sherwood Cox take it to the United States Supreme Court with assisstance from the National Right to Work Foundation. A Brief of Amici Curiae was submitted and accepted by the Supreme Court in support of Chamber of Commerce vs Brown (06-939).
California Gov't Code Section 16645.2(a) bars private employers who are "recipients of a grant of state funds" from "using the funds to assist, promote, or deter union organizing." Similarly, Section 16645.7(a) bars "a private employer receiving state funds in excess of [$10,000] in any calendar year on account of its participation in a state program" from using such funds "to assist, promote, or deter union organizing.
This law threatens the rights of emplyees to seek information and educate themselves on the pros and cons of unionizing. Forcing employers into a "neutrality agreement" with the unions. Stopunions.com agrees that this law directly violates federal law as outlined in the National Labor Relations Act and our 1st amendment rights of free speech and restricts the free flow of information in the workplace.

October 5th 2007 - NRTW wins big decision with NLRB. The bottom line is that any time a union gets in via "card check recognition," the employees can automatically file for decertification and get a secret ballot election (if 30% of them sign a decertification petition) to test whether or not the union really has majority support. This is Excellent and very far reaching!

August 12th 2007Ê- St. Johns Mercy Medical Center in St. Louis Missouri voted to decertify the UFCW union and rejected unionization by the SEIU. Congratulations ST. Johns!!!!

August 6th 2007 - It can be done! Chicago RN's reject the CNA/NNOC. See election info!

May 9th 2007 - A lot of unhappy Nurses from California, Arizona,ÊIllinois and MissouriÊare contacting stopunions.com for information on how to keep the California Nurses Association out of their pockets. If you are one of those nurses, let your thoughts be known on our comment section.Ê Nurses of St. Johns Mercy Medical Center, best wishes on your efforts to become UNION FREE!

May 9th 2007 - New links added. What's up with the SEIU?

April 24th 2007 - The California Nurses Association has withdrawn its petition to represent Registered Nurses at Western Medical Center Santa Ana. After losing in an NLRB supervised election held December 27th and 28th 2006, the CNA filed multiple objections in an attempt to overturn the election and receive a revote. The NLRB scheduled a hearing for March 20th of 2007 to rule on those objections.

On March 19th 2007 the CNA realizing the inevitable confirmation of their loss pulled out and filed to withdraw the election petition altogether.ÊThe translation is that although Registered Nurses of Western Medical Center made a professional decision to be heard byÊvoting Êin an election the CNA demanded, the CNA did not like what they heard and withdrew the election altogether so the loss is not recorded by the NLRB.Ê We witnessed it. We Participated. We Know it happened and the CNA cannot respect or accept it. This is the union who claims to be the "voice for nurses".

See NLRB Website for more information: Ê http://www.nlrb.gov/shared_files/Regional%20Decisions/2007/21-RC-00936-3-2-07.pdf

February 26th 2007 - Certification of the Western Medical Center RN's vote against the CNA has been DELAYED pending charges filed by the CNA and CNA supporters.

Several staff Nurses at Western Medical Center Santa Ana have been served with a "subpoena" demanding release of their personal time card information and work schedules. The CNA is also demanding release of patient records. This is blatant harassment of nursing staff who openly opposed the unions aggressive organizing campaign. The California Nurses Association is openly challenging theseÊstaff nurses right to free speech and freedom of association.

Western Medical Center Registered Nurses voted for the second time in less than three years against organization by the CNA. "Anonymous" flyers mailed in mass to hospital nurses caricatured Sherwood Cox, R.N.Êas a puppet of hospital administration suggesting that a mere RN could not possibly be motivated to mount such a successful campaign against the union without management input or compensation. This kind of aggressive personal attack and legal action is an insult to the intelligence of Registered Nurses everywhere!

July 21, 2006 - Western Medical Center Santa Ana Management AnnouncesÊ A 7% Across the Board Pay Increases For Its FullÊand Part TimeÊRegistered Nurses. Per Diem RN's Are Already Enjoying The 7% Pay Increase They Received in June

Western Medical Center Santa Ana Employees get it all and more because we do not pay union dues. We do not live under the threat of a strike. We work together as a team and we do it without the cloud of the CNA or SEIU hanging over us.

July 5th 2006 - Sherwood Cox, R.N., staff Registered Nurse at Western Medical Center Santa Ana announced that Unfair Labor Practices charges have been filed against the CNA and Western Medical Center. Sherwood cites the apparent attempt by the CNA to invoke the Tenet/CNA peers at Western Medical Center. The CNA only wants one side of the argument heard. We want to hear everyones Agrvoice.Neutrality agreement. The CNA was already removed from Whittier Hospital Medical Center in Los Angeles County after the NLRB ruled that the Neutrality agreement was considered unlawful assistance to the union.
The CNA is trying to block the free distribution of information and opinions among
March 30th 2006- Nurse grassroots campaign at Scripps Encinitas Hospital leads to victory for RN's opposed to unionization by the California Nurses Association. The CNA, under pressure from a renewed decertification campaign accepts Scripps managements initial proposal. Nurses voted to accept a contract without a union security clause making Scripps Encinitas and "open shop. Professional RN's at Scripps can choose not to be union members and do not have to fear termination for not paying union dues.
Eighth Circuit Court Rules Nurses Can be Fired!
February 4th 2006 - This is how a closed shop works. St John's Hospital will be forced to terminate RN's who do not pay their union dues. The union demands that these nurses be FIRED! Inclusion of a "Union Security Clause" Forces the courts decison.
Whittier Hospital Nurses Win NLRB Ruling, CNA loses recognition
Whittier Hospital announces to employees that the CNA will no longer be recognized as the excusive bargaining agaent for it's nurses. The NLRB ruled that the Tenet/CNA neutrality agreement is illegal assisstance to the union.
Previously when the SEIU had obtained such an agreement with Tenet the CNA claimed such contracts were illegal but stopped objeting when they negotiated their own illegal deal. We guess they were right the first time.
